I thought I’d share some tearsheets from back in the day. Just random favorites from throughout my photography life. Some I love, some I like… but they ALL bring back memories.

I miss the days when every month a new layout would show up in a magazine. I miss walking into a newsstand and seeing one of my photos on the cover. That feeling never got old.

It’s a different world today, and that’s OK.

I had my fun… and I’ve got the tearsheets to prove it.

Way back on December 17, 1976, I shot my FIRST concert @StanleyClarke on his SCHOOL DAYS Tour, opening for @HerbieHancock at the Berkeley Community Theatre.

I snuck my camera in, shot one roll of film and somehow got a few good photos. After that, I was hooked! I started sneaking my camera into more concerts, shooting from wherever I was sitting.

50 years later, SCHOOL DAYS is still one of my favorite jazz fusion albums EVER. I still play it when I wanna smile and remember the good old days.

But here’s the crazy part…

In 1988, I got to meet Stanley and eventually shoot albums covers for him. My childhood jazz fusion HERO! How fucking cool is that?

Thanks to Stanley, I also got to meet and photograph other musical heroes like George Duke, Gerry Brown and Al Di Meola.

From sneaking a camera into his concert to shooting his album covers… what a journey!

Great music. Great memories. One hell of a photography life.

Thank you, Stanley!

There’s MORE to life than music photography. You might not know this, but I’ve shot it all in the last 50+ years. When I moved to Los Angeles I was told… “It’s not what you shoot, it’s who you shoot.” I believe that to this day. Here’s some shoots & people you might recognize from “back in the day”. WOO HOO!!!
